Lady Liberty and Ellis Island

We make a habit of crossing off the bigger/important landmarks when sightseeing on day one of vacation. It wears you out and usually you are already tired from travel, so why not?

Some NYC travel tips suggested skipping the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in favor of the free Staten Island Ferry or some other boat ride. I'm so glad we went.

Ellis Island was amazing. To imagine all of the people who passed through in search of a better life was overwhelming. The building is beautiful. A building for the people.
