The Beehive in Rome was my hands-down favorite hotel. It was very cozy, clean and homey. It is owned by an American couple and the staff all speak English, which was comforting amidst the craziness of Rome. It was really close to the train station, making it a cinch to go places. It had a resident cat named Ingmar, who likes to be pet and has a very scratchy tongue.
The downstairs is an organic cafe that operates co-op style. We just got drinks and nibbles there, but it was nice to be able to get wine and beer in our little hotel. The downstairs also has a couch and chair (where we played cards and drink wine one night, then ate sandwiches and planned parts of our trip on the internet another night).
It was the only place where we had to share a bathroom, but I never had to wait and the shower was always warm. I didn't take many pictures, but here is the sink in our room. Maybe they could come to our house and repeat?

That sink is awesome. And I could definitely see that as part of your house.
