There are a few people who read this blog on the regular. I lost one of my main readers, one who wasn't overly crazy about the casual way I write it sometimes, on Friday. My dear maternal grandfather passed away. After years of fighting the good fight against emphysema, his body betrayed him. And while I'm thankful he feels no more pain or anxiety about his physical condition, I'm holding onto a mixed bag of sadness, reflection, adoration and emptiness.
Miles Ashby Nelson had it. Lots of people in the world don't, but he did. A spark. A twinkle in his eye. Warmth and wit. The best kind of dinner guest. A natural born storyteller. A great laugh with a side of your mouth snicker at the end. He was the best.
That's him on the left.

Yes, he was an amazing man. I have fond memories of him and Nancy at the North Oaks house at Thanksgiving and Christmas when I was growing up. All of the adults sitting around drinking scotch while us kids played on the tennis court, ice skated on the lake or just ran up and down those steep stairs with the light blue carpeting. My heart is so sad that he has passed yet I am so grateful that he isn't in any more pain.
With all my sympathy and love,
Jennifer March Hutchison (cousin)
I am so sorry for your loss.
